Exxon Spending Cuts Led to Shale Reserves Reduction
Exxon says it has cut about 1.5 billion barrels from its U.S. shale reserves because huge capital spending reductions it has announced mean it won't develop those reserves in the near future. The SEC requires oil companies to produce oil and gas within a five-year window to count them as proved reserves. Exxon said it could re-book those reserves if its capital spending increases or other factors change.
